Here Comes the Sun, designs

Would you like to volunteer to create an embroidered square for our quilt Here Comes the Sun?

These beautiful sun paintings and drawings are made by people who aren’t able to do their own embroidery at the moment. This might be due to issues such as health, caring duties, homelessness, struggles with addiction…

Instructions

  1. Choose one of the paintings or drawings from the selection on this page.
  2. Let me know the number of the artwork you have chosen. (So I can try and prevent duplicates)
  3. Cut a 6inch (15.5cm) blue square, this will be your background.
  4. Embroider your representation of the sun design. You can use any stitch you like, running stitch, back stitch, French knots, chain, you can use appliqué, add sequins, have fun.
  5. If you need extra fabric or a SAE to return the work, please let me know. When you have completed your square, (or maybe you have made two?) please post it to:

6. Once your embroidery has arrived, Lois will share a photograph of your embroidery with the person who made the painting, then in November Lois will stitch it into the quilt.

Deadline?

We advice you to send your embroideries by the 27th October, to allow them to get to me by the 30th October.

What Next?

We have 100 squares already, and expecting lots more. Lois will stitch all the squares together in early November. The artwork will be photographed and shared on our websites. We are putting together a touring exhibition, more on that soon.

Enjoy!
